In light of the 84^th Annual Academy Awards last Sunday, one of the highlights of the entire event is looking at all the beautiful celebrity hairstyles. Romantic yet laid back curly hairstyles can be easily accomplished by loose curls that are gathered up into a half up/half down hairstyle, just like Melissa McCarthy, who opted for a simple but glamourous look.

Many people do not have enough time in the morning to style their hair to perfection. Curly heads know how important it is to be able to style their hair when short of time. Styling curly hair is the first critical preparation stage on which to achieve your desired curly hairstyle. Spending a few extra minutes in this stage will ensure your look will last longer. Using high heated appliances such as curling irons or hot rollers to create your curls, you will notice more frizz, especially in humidity and when perspiring. One step of curly hair care that is often overlooked is detangling. Tangles and knots get in the way of creating perfect ringlets and frizz free curly hair. Because healthy hair loses an average of one hundred hairs each day, combing through and detangling will not only give you better results with styling, but also get rid of all those loose hairs.

The winter season is the time of year when curly heads notice extra tangles at the back of their head where curls rub against the collar of a winter jacket. The constant rubbing on the collar of the jacket against curly hair inevitably causes knots and tangles. These are the most stubborn and painful, but are also the most important tangles to remove to prevent extreme matting. To easily remove and instantly detangle these knots use Slip™ Detangler. Cold Water Rinsing

There are millions of people that practice all kinds of beauty folklore theories and fables that get passed down through generations. Some of them are common sense and some simply are not true.

Many people think that rinsing out conditioner or a hair treatment with cold water keeps the hair cuticle closed resulting in shiny hair. However, a cold-water rinse does not contribute to the closing of the hair cuticle. Controlling the correct pH balance by using a low pH level product will seal the hair cuticles leaving the hair shiny and silky. The pH level is a measurement of acidity or alkalinity in the hair that ranges from being either acidic (0-6.9) or alkaline (7.1-14). PH level is used as a scale to match our environment to our body and is essential when treating all hair conditions including frizzy hair. The pH balance of curly hair is the key to controlling unruly, frizzy dry hair. Healthy curly hair should have a pH balance of 4.5 – 5.5 making it slightly acidic. Therefore, the perfect hair conditioner should have a low pH level between 3.5 and 5 to restore the hair’s ideal balance resulting in healthy shiny curly hair.

The skin, which has blood vessels running throughout, is vulnerable to temperature change. Therefore, cold water rinsing will definitely have an effect on the scalp, but never on curly hair. So go ahead, turn up the temperature and enjoy your showers!

Sleeping on Curly Hair

If you do your curly hair at night you will have more time to get ready in the morning!

With daylight savings over it is harder to get up in the morning when it’s still dark out. This means sleeping in and rushing to get ready to make sure you get to work on time. By getting ready the night before saves you that time in the morning allowing you to get few more minutes of shut eye without being rushed.

We know that the less movement created while your hair is drying will result in less frizz and more control. Sleeping without moving is not a reality for some, but there are options that will allow you to do your curly hair at night so you have more time in the morning. Going to sleep with your hair still wet does not have to be uncomfortable. Here are some steps you can take to make sleeping with curly hair easier.

In the Evening – First, prepare your hair using your regular routine. Allow your hair to dry on its own for 30 minutes. Once your hair is surface dry it will be safe to sleep on. For loose curls group sections of curls towards the top of your head and secure with a Roller Jaw Clamp. This will make ensure a cleaner ‘S’ formation and a better hairstyle in the morning. For tighter curls, use a Hair Robe while sleeping. This will keep your curly hair secure with much less movement and allow them to dry properly and undisturbed while you sleep.

In the Morning – If you should wake up with frizz and messy hair do not panic. 1. While hair is still damp, begin at the bangs and comb hair towards the back of the head.
